Section 65 ILCS 5/11-143-1 - Tax rate

The corporate authorities of any municipality which now has, or hereafter may have, established a system of sewerage for the municipality, annually may levy and collect a tax not to exceed .01666% of the value, as equalized or assessed by the Department of Revenue, of the taxable real and personal property in the municipality, for the extension and laying of sewers in the municipality and for the maintenance of those sewers. However, the board of public works of the municipality, if any, or the head of the municipality's sewer department, shall first certify to the corporate authorities the amount that will be necessary for those purposes. The tax shall be known as the sewerage fund tax and shall be levied and collected in the same manner as are the other general taxes of the municipality.

A two-thirds majority of all the corporate authorities may levy and collect annually, a tax not to exceed .10% of the value, as equalized or assessed by the Department of Revenue, of the taxable real and personal property in the municipality, for the specified purposes. Nothing in this Section increases the aggregate amount of tax, as limited in Section 8-3-1, that may be levied in any one year.
