Section 10 ILCS 5/6-1 - Construed as continuation of prior provisions

The provisions of this Article 6 (and of Articles 14 and 18 hereof) so far as they are the same as those of the provisions of "An Act regulating the holding of elections and declaring the result thereof in cities, villages and incorporated towns in this state", approved June 19, 1885, as amended, (hereinafter sometimes referred to in this Article as the Act of 1885) shall be construed as a continuation of such prior provisions and not as a new enactment; and it is declared to be the legislative intent that any city, village or incorporated town which has heretofore adopted and become entitled to the provisions of said Act of 1885, shall automatically become subject to the provisions of this Article 6 and Articles 14 and 18 of this Act (as well as certain sections in other articles which are made specifically applicable to such city, village or incorporated town), which three articles together shall be known as the City Election Law.
