Section 226-105 - Crime and criminal justicePriority guidelines in the area of crime and criminal justice:
(1) Support law enforcement activities and other criminal justice efforts that are directed to provide a safer environment.(2) Target state and local resources on efforts to reduce the incidence of violent crime and on programs relating to the apprehension and prosecution of repeat offenders.(3) Support community and neighborhood program initiatives that enable residents to assist law enforcement agencies in preventing criminal activities.(4) Reduce overcrowding or substandard conditions in correctional facilities through a comprehensive approach among all criminal justice agencies which may include sentencing law revisions and use of alternative sanctions other than incarceration for persons who pose no danger to their community.(5) Provide a range of appropriate sanctions for juvenile offenders, including community-based programs and other alternative sanctions.(6) Increase public and private efforts to assist witnesses and victims of crimes and to minimize the costs of victimization.L 1978, c 100, pt of §2; am L 1984, c 236, §17; am L 1986, c 276, §32
