Section 19a-NEW - [Newly enacted section not yet numbered] Educational material concerning gun safety to be provided by primary care providers to patients(a) As used in this section:(1) "Primary care provider" means a physician, advanced practice registered nurse or physician assistant who provides primary care services and is licensed by the Department of Public Health pursuant to title 20 of the general statutes; and(2) "Primary care" means the medical fields of family medicine, general pediatrics, primary care, internal medicine, primary care obstetrics or primary care gynecology, without regard to board certification.(b) On or before January 1, 2025, the Commissioner of Public Health, in consultation with the Commission on Community Gun Violence Intervention and Prevention, established pursuant to section 19a-112j of the general statutes, and the Connecticut chapters of a national professional association of physicians, a national professional association of pediatricians, a national professional association of advanced practice registered nurses and a national professional association of physician assistants, provided such chapters and associations agree to such consultation, shall develop or procure educational material concerning gun safety practices to be provided by primary care providers to patients during the patient's appointment with such patient's primary care provider. On or before February 1, 2025, the Department of Public Health shall make the educational material available to all primary care providers in the state, at no cost to the provider, and make recommendations to such primary care providers for the effective use of such educational material. Such primary care providers shall make such educational material available to each patient on an annual basis at the patient's appointment with the primary care provider, or at each appointment if the patient visits the primary care provider less frequently than annually.Conn.
