Section 28-43-24 - Contributions payable by governmental entities(a) In lieu of contributions required by employers under chapters 42 - 44 of this title, a governmental entity as defined in § 28-42-3(22) may elect to pay to the director for the employment security fund an amount equal to the amount of regular benefits and of one-half (1/2) of the extended benefits paid that are attributable to service in the employ of the governmental entity for weeks of unemployment which begin during the effective period of that election in accordance with the provisions of § 28-43-29; provided, that for weeks of unemployment beginning on or after January 1, 1979, governmental entities which have elected reimbursement shall be responsible for reimbursing the fund for the full amount of extended benefits that are attributable to service in the employ of that governmental entity.(b) If a governmental entity elects to reimburse the fund, reimbursement payments shall be made in accordance with the provisions of § 28-43-30 and the allocation of benefit costs shall be made in accordance with provisions of § 28-43-31.(c) If a governmental entity does not elect to reimburse the fund, it shall be required to pay contributions as provided in chapters 42 - 44 of this title.R.I.
