Section 14-5G-08 - Licensing required before practice(a) Except as otherwise provided in this subtitle, on or after January 1, 2024, an individual shall be licensed by the Board before the individual may practice genetic counseling in the State.(b) This section does not apply to: (1) An individual who is employed by the United States government to practice genetic counseling while practicing within the scope of that employment;(2) An individual who resides in and holds an active license in another state if the individual is engaged in consultation with a physician or genetic counselor licensed in the State about a particular patient and the individual: (i) Does not order or coordinate genetic laboratory tests or other diagnostic studies; and(ii) Does not provide consultation in the State for more than a total of 10 patients within a calendar year; or(3) A student enrolled in a genetic counseling training program that is accredited by a national accrediting organization recognized by the Board in regulations while the student is practicing genetic counseling in the program and doing the assigned duties at any office of a licensed physician or genetic counselor, hospital, clinic, or similar facility.Added by 2021 Md.
