Section 45-9-241.20 - Expense allowance and salary of the Revenue Commissioner of Chambers County
(a) Effective June 1, 2023, the Revenue Commissioner of Chambers County shall receive an additional expense allowance so that the expense allowance and the salary of the revenue commissioner is equal to eighty-four thousand dollars ($84,000) per year payable in equal monthly installments. This expense allowance shall be in addition to any other salary, expense allowance, or compensation the revenue commissioner is receiving. The expense allowance provided by this subsection shall be treated as salary for retirement purposes.
(b) Effective beginning the next term of office after May 10, 2023, the annual salary of the revenue commissioner shall be eighty-four thousand dollars ($84,000) per year and at that time subsection (a) shall be void.
(c) Notwithstanding the provisions of Section 11-2A-4, Code of Alabama 1975, or any other law to the contrary, effective beginning October 1, 2024, and thereafter, pursuant to the provisions of this act, the revenue commissioner shall be entitled to the same uniform increases in compensation, such as cost-of-living increases, received by any other elected county officer. The uniform increases shall be paid to the revenue commissioner as expense allowances during the term of the revenue commissioner and shall be treated as salary for retirement purposes. At the end of each term, the amount of any uniform increases during the term shall be added to the permanent salary of the revenue commissioner effective beginning the next term of the revenue commissioner.
(d) The expense allowance and salary provided by this section shall be paid from any fund or funds from which the salary of the revenue commissioner is currently paid.
