Section 45-49-40.06 - Application of non-resident barbers or apprentices(a) Any person who is at least 18 years of age and of good moral character and temperate habits, who has a license as a practicing barber from another state or county having substantially the same requirements for licensing barbers as are required by this part, or who can prove by sworn affidavits that he or she has practiced as a barber in another state for at least five years within the 10 years next immediately preceding the making of the application in such county, upon the payment of the required fee, shall be granted permission to take an examination to determine his or her fitness to receive a license to practice as a barber. Should he or she fail to pass the examination, he or she within three months, may file a new application, accompanied by the required fee, and take another examination. In no event shall he or she be permitted to practice barbering until such time as he or she has passed an examination and complied with all applicable provisions of this part, and has received a license as a barber.(b) Any apprentice barber who is at least 16 and one-half years of age and of good moral character and temperate habits and has a license as an apprentice in another state or county which has substantially the same requirements for licensing an apprentice as is provided in this part, or who can prove by sworn affidavits that he or she has practiced in another county or state for at least six months prior to making application in this state, shall upon the payment of the required fee, be granted permission to take an examination to determine his or her fitness to receive a license as an apprentice. Should he or she pass the required examination, and have complied with all other applicable provisions of this part, a license as an apprentice shall be issued to him or her. In this event the time spent in such other state or county as an apprentice shall be credited upon the period of apprenticeship required by this part, toward qualifying for the examination to determine his or her fitness to receive a license as a barber.Ala.
