Section 45-45-121.01 - Officers; meetings; functions of board

The members of the board shall elect one of their members as chair, whose duties shall include calling, organizing, and presiding over meetings of the board, as well as ruling upon any evidentiary objections raised in the course of adjudicating appeals filed before the board. The members of the board shall also elect a secretary whose duty shall be to keep the minutes of the board. Each officer elected by the board shall serve in that capacity for a term of one year. The board shall meet on the call of the chair or by two of the members or by request of the county governing body, and as necessary to timely adjudicate any appeals filed under this part. Two members of the board shall constitute a quorum for the transaction of business. The functions of the board shall be:

(1) To formulate and adopt a set of rules to supplement this part and revisions and amendments thereof.
(2) As provided by this part, and by rule, to hear and decide appeals submitted by any person covered under this part, as set out in Section 45-45-121.02.
(3) In any investigation or hearing conducted by the board, the board may examine witnesses under oath and compel their attendance or the production of evidence before it by subpoenas issued in the name of the county. Each member of the board shall have the power to administer oaths to witnesses.
