Section 34-40-15 - Unauthorized activities(a) Nothing in this chapter shall authorize an athletic trainer to engage in the practice of medicine; to diagnose, treat, or cure any human disease, illness, ailment, infirmity, pain, or other condition that is not an athletic injury; to perform surgery of any type or description; or to prescribe any drug or medical device.(b) Nothing in this chapter shall allow an athletic trainer to hold himself or herself out, or practice, as a physical therapist, occupational therapist, clinical nutritionist, or chiropractic physician. Nothing in this chapter shall allow an athletic trainer to perform spinal manipulation. However, nothing in this chapter shall be construed to restrict an athletic trainer from practicing within the scope of practice as otherwise provided under this chapter.(c) Nothing in this chapter shall modify, amend, repeal, or supersede any provision of the Alabama Medical Liability Act of 1987, commencing with Section 6-5-540, or the Alabama Medical Liability Act of 1996, commencing with Section 6-5-548, or any amendment to or judicial interpretation of those laws.Ala.
