(a) The minimization of waste produced by employing best practices to reduce the amount of contaminated materials;(b) The substitution and use of nonradioactive materials or radioactive materials with shorter radioactive half-lives; and(c) The compaction of low-level radioactive waste to reduce the volume of waste that must be transported and disposed of in the state.
