Section 9-34-201 - DefinitionsFor purposes of this subchapter:
(1) "Fire department" means any organization that:(A) Is established for the prevention or extinguishment of fires, including without limitation: (i) A fire department organized under a municipal or county ordinance;(ii) An improvement district;(iii) A membership fee-based private fire department; and(iv) A volunteer fire department; and(B)(i) Except as provided in subdivision (1)(B)(ii) of this section, is staffed twenty-four (24) hours per day by a medical services provider.(ii) "Fire department" includes an organization under subdivision (1)(A) of this section that has a dual alarm system that will dispatch the nearest first responder affiliated with the fire department to retrieve a child voluntarily delivered to the fire department under this subchapter in the event that all first responders affiliated with the fire department are dispatched for a separate emergency;(2) "Law enforcement agency" means any police force or organization whose primary responsibility as established by law or ordinance is the enforcement of the criminal, traffic, or highway laws of this state as defined in § 12-9-301 and that is staffed twenty-four (24) hours a day; and(3) "Medical provider" means any medically staffed department of a hospital licensed under § 20-9-214.Amended by Act 2023, No. 348,§ 2, eff. 8/1/2023.Amended by Act 2023, No. 68,§ 2, eff. 8/1/2023.Amended by Act 2019, No. 185,§ 2, eff. 7/24/2019.
