Section 17-101-302 - Veterinarians - Examinations(a)(1) The Arkansas Livestock and Poultry Commission, at such times as it may designate, shall conduct an examination of applicants for license to practice veterinary medicine in the State of Arkansas.(2) All examinations shall be: (A) In writing, supplemented by oral interviews and practical examinations as the commission may deem necessary; and(B) So conducted as to ensure absolute impartiality in grading.(b) The commission hereby adopts the National Board Examination and the Clinical Competency Test, or the North American Veterinary Licensing Examination, or its future equivalent, as a basis for licensure in the State of Arkansas, along with a written examination conducted by the commission.(c) The commission requires that all applicants for licensure to practice veterinary medicine in the State of Arkansas shall pass the National Board Examination and the Clinical Competency Test, or the North American Veterinary Licensing Examination, or its future equivalent, in addition to any and all state examinations, written examinations, oral interviews, and practical demonstrations as the commission may request or require.(d) All applicants are required to complete a written examination conducted by the commission composed of, but not limited to:(1) The Arkansas Veterinary Medical Practice Act, § 17-101-101 et seq.;(2) State and federal statutes relating to prescription and controlled drugs;(3) Ethics of veterinary medicine; and(4) Rules and regulations of the Arkansas Livestock and Poultry Commission, the United States Department of Agriculture, the United States Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, and rabies control.(e)(1) Poultry specialty applicants shall sit for a written examination conducted by the commission on poultry veterinary medicine.(2) A license will be issued to poultry specialty applicants with a seventy percent (70%) or better score on the commission examination and a passing score on the National Board Examination, the North American Veterinary Licensing Examination, or its equivalent.Amended by Act 2023, No. 691,§ 154, eff. 7/1/2023.Acts 1975, No. 650, § 6; A.S.A. 1947, § 72-1137; Acts 1993, No. 1198, § 1; 1995, No. 1348, § 1; 2001, No. 1741, § 4.
