Rule Administrative Order No. 14 - Appellate and Administrative Responsibilities of the Supreme Court

To implement the appellate and administrative responsibilities of the Supreme Court under Chapter II, § 30 of the Vermont Constitution, the State of Vermont is divided into four areas as follows:

Area I

Chittenden

Grand Isle

Franklin

Essex

Area II

Rutland

Addison

Bennington

Windsor

Area III

Windham

Lamoille

Washington (trial courts)

Area IV

Washington (administrative boards and agencies)

Caledonia

Orleans

One Associate Justice will be assigned from time to time, to each area, having responsibility in that area to entertain motions authorized under the statutes and the Rules of Appellate Procedure for decision by a single Justice of the Supreme Court. The assigned Justice will have the further responsibility of acting as liaison between the Courts within the area and the Supreme Court in its administrative capacity.
