Iowa R. Crim. P. 2.85

In order to implement Iowa Code section 901C.3(4), the Iowa Judicial Branch shall maintain a confidential record of expunged misdemeanors. This record shall be confidential and exempt from public access under Iowa Code section 22.7. Before granting an application for expungement under Iowa Code section 901C.3, the district court shall access the record in a manner authorized by the record's designated custodian to determine whether the applicant has received a prior misdemeanor expungement. If a prior misdemeanor expungement is found, the case name, case number, and date of expungement shall be provided to the parties.
