Section 67.1 Party or witness with hearing impairmentWhen necessary to permit a party or witness with hearing impairment to participate in a hearing or conference, the court shall provide an interpreter in accordance with C.G.S. section 46a-33a.
Section 67.2 Interpreter permitted for language translation(a) The court may allow a person to serve as interpreter for a party or witness who is unable to speak or understand English.(b) In determining whether to allow the proposed interpreter to assist the party or witness, the court shall consider: (1) whether the interpreter is impartial;(2) the competence of the interpreter to provide accurate and reliable interpretation service;(3) the proposed compensation, if any, of the interpreter; and(4) other relevant factors. Section 67.3 Interpreter to act under oath(a) The court shall administer to an interpreter the oath ''for an interpreter in court'' provided in C.G.S. section 1-25.(b) Notwithstanding subsection (a), administration of an oath is not required if the interpreter is a member of court staff or a commercial interpreting service.Adopted November 7, 2012, effective 7/1/2013.
