Rule 1 - Scope of rules; title and abbreviation

The provisions of these rules shall apply in any trial or other proceeding presided over by a district or circuit judge wherein videotape equipment is used under the direction of the trial judge to record the proceeding, and in any appellate proceedings arising from such a proceeding. However, videotape equipment will be installed initially only when a district or circuit judge using the courtroom expressly consents to the installation of the videotape equipment. A district or circuit judge must initially consent to use the equipment during trials or other proceedings over which that judge presides. These rules shall be known as the Alabama Rules for Using Videotape Equipment to Record Court Proceedings. The style of these rules may be abbreviated as "Ala.R.U.V.E."

Court Comment to Amendment to Rule 1, Effective July 23, 1991.

This amendment provided that (1) videotape equipment would be installed initially only when a judge using the courtroom expressly consented to the installation and (2) the judge must initially consent to the use of the equipment during trials or other proceedings over which that judge presides.
