If the department has reason to believe that a violation of the requirements of ch. 289, Stats., or chs. NR 500 to 538 has occurred, it may take enforcement action as authorized under subch. VIII of ch. 289, Stats., or as authorized in applicable enforcement provisions for landfill and solid waste disposal program requirements in chs. NR 500 to 538.
