Section R392-200-10 - Construction and Maintenance of Physical Facilities - Heating, Ventilation, and Air ConditioningThe governing body shall ensure that:
(1) air ducts and air filters are maintained to prevent the entrance of dust, dirt, or other contaminating material;(2) vehicles are prohibited from parking in any area adjacent to and close enough to a building air intake to create a vehicle exhaust hazard or nuisance inside the building;(3) each room heating fixture is installed, vented, and maintained in a safe working condition, and portable combustion-type space heaters are not used inside a building;(4) the building temperature is maintained within the occupied areas of the school building: (a) at a temperature between 68 and 74 degrees Fahrenheit during cold weather as measured from three feet above floor level;(b) at the appropriate temperature for any school activity that, because of the nature of the activity, requires a temperature different from Subsection (4)(a), including ice skating, swimming, and vigorous exercise; or(c) at an appropriate range for any student who qualifies under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA);(5) in the event of extreme heat or extreme cold in an occupied area of the school for 90 consecutive minutes:(a) the local health department is notified; and(b) the local health officer is consulted on the proper course of action to take to maintain student health;(6) a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system inspection and any necessary maintenance activity is conducted according to the manufacturer's recommendations by qualified individuals;(7) if the school has a boiler or other mechanical unit required to be inspected and certified for use, the most recent boiler inspection certificate issued by the Boiler, Elevator, and Coal Mine Safety Division at the Utah Labor Commission is posted in a conspicuous area where the local health officer can easily verify that the inspection has been completed and the certification is current;Utah Admin.
