The national primary ambient air quality standards define levels of air quality that are necessary, with a margin of safety, to protect the public health. The national secondary ambient air quality standards define levels of air quality that are necessary to protect the public welfare from any known or anticipated adverse effects of a pollutant. These standards are located in chapter 74:36:02.
