If the department plans to construct a new bridge structure, the design of the structure may, upon request of a utility company, be reviewed for accommodation of existing or proposed utility installations consistent with the requirements in this chapter. The utility company must reimburse the state for any additional costs associated with accommodation of the utility facility in the new structure.
Installation of a facility by a utility company on a new structure must be coordinated with the bridge construction so as not to interfere with the operations of the highway contractor.
