The permit holder of a single-trip permit issued pursuant to § 70:03:01:60 shall complete the permit form, sign the permit, and send the duplicate copy of the permit to the Department of Transportation before beginning a trip. The signed original permit is the permit for the movement of the LCV. Each permit is valid for the duration of one trip or 24 hours, whichever occurs first.
The permit holder must ensure that the original signed permit is carried in or on the LCV at all times during the trip. The permit holder must ensure that the LCV meets all the requirements and provisions of the permit. Once a LCV begins a trip, the driver is considered the permit holder.
The term "trip" as used in this section is defined as whichever occurs first, reaching the first location where a tractor change is made to the LCV or reaching the first location where the LCV has reversed its direction and is beginning to return to its point of origin. A round trip requires two single-trip permits.
When a trailer change is made in the LCV during a trip, the original permit must be changed to identify the trailer change made.
