Section 70:03:01:104 - Hitches used to transport farm implements from manufacturer - Specifications and limitations

A farm implement may be transported from the manufacturer if the implement is connected to the power unit by a ball hitch, gooseneck hitch, fifth wheel hitch, pintle hitch, or pin hitch. If two farm implements are being towed behind a power unit, the second implement may be hitched to the first implement directly or indirectly. The hitch connecting the second implement directly to the first implement must be a ball hitch, gooseneck hitch, fifth wheel hitch, pintle hitch, or pin hitch that is directly fastened to the frame of the first implement or which is directly fastened to the structure of the monocoqued construction of the first implement. If the second implement consists of a gooseneck trailer or semitrailer or a unit of similar design, it may be hitched indirectly to the first implement by a dolly. The dolly must be hitched to the first implement by a ball hitch, pintle hitch, or pin hitch that is directly fastened to the frame of the first implement or that is directly fastened to the structure of the monocoqued construction of the first implement. The second unit must be hitched to the dolly by a gooseneck hitch or fifth wheel. The dolly is considered part of the second implement and is not a unit in itself. If rated, the hitch must be rated for the load pulled by the hitch. In the case of the pin hitch, the pin must be made of steel, it must be no less than three-quarters of an inch in diameter, and it must be clipped or fastened securely.
