A family-directed assessment must be completed to appropriately determine the child's and family's needs. Family-directed assessment must be carried out by qualified personnel to use state approved, evidence-based practices and is designed to determine the resources, priorities, and concerns of an individual family and the identification of the supports and services necessary to enhance the family's capacity to meet the developmental needs of the child.
Any assessment that is conducted must be voluntary on the part of each family member participating in the assessment. If an assessment of the family is carried out, the assessment must be conducted by qualified personnel trained to use state approved methods and procedures, be based on information obtained through an assessment tool and through an interview with those family members who elect to participate in the assessment.
