Section 12:68:25:03 - Voluntary CWD herd certification program surveillance proceduresCervid herd owners may choose to participate in the voluntary chronic wasting disease herd certification program (VCWDHCP). The following surveillance procedures are required of herd owners seeking certification:
(1) Brain tissue and regional lymph nodes, as directed by the state veterinarian, shall be submitted for all captive cervidae 12 months of age and older that have died for any reason including by slaughter, hunting, illness, and injury;(2) Herds that have obtained certified CWD status are exempt from subdivision (1), but owners must submit samples from any cervidae 12 months of age and older that have died of natural causes, including illness and injury. If required samples are not collected, the state veterinarian shall determine compliance with the surveillance program.S.D. Admin. R. 12:68:25:03
