Section 650-RICR-20-00-9.1 - Authority and PurposeA. These Rules and Regulations (Rules) are promulgated by the Coastal Resources Management Council (CRMC) pursuant to R.I. Gen. Laws § 46-23-6, as amended, and consistent with R.I. Gen. Laws §§ 2-1-18 through 2-1-20.1 and 21-27.B. The CRMC shall be responsible for the protection and management of freshwater wetlands in the vicinity of the coast as depicted on the map in § 9.22 of this Part. The CRMC may at any time, when necessary, consult with and/or coordinate its responsibilities and duties with the DEM.C. These Rules are promulgated by the CRMC to:1. Administer and enforce R.I. Gen. Laws §§ 46-23-6(2)(iii)(E) and (iv), as amended, in regard to freshwater wetlands in the vicinity of the coast; and2. Preserve, protect, and restore the purity and integrity of all freshwater wetlands, buffers and floodplains located in the vicinity of the coast within the State of Rhode Island so that these resources shall be available for all beneficial purposes, and thus protect the health, welfare, and general wellbeing of the people and the environment of Rhode Island.650 R.I.
