Section 250-RICR-150-15-3.1 - Authority and Purpose

A. Authority: These Rules and Regulations (the Rules) are promulgated pursuant to R.I. Gen. Laws §§ 2-1-20.1, 42-17.1-1et seq., 42-17.6-1et seq.,46-23-6, and in accordance with R.I. Gen. Laws § 42-35-1et seq.

B. Purpose: These Rules are promulgated to:

1. Describe the Department's authority to administer and enforce R.I. Gen. Laws §§ 2-1-18 through 2-1-27; the Freshwater Wetlands Act (the Act); and

2. Preserve, protect and restore the purity and integrity of all freshwater wetlands, buffers and floodplains in the State of Rhode Island so that these resources shall be available for all beneficial purposes, and thus protect the health, welfare and general well-being of the people and the environment of Rhode Island.
