Section 333-122-0160 - General Requirements for All RGD: Training
(1) The registrant may not permit any individual to act as an RGD X-ray machine operator until the individual has received training in the following subjects, in addition to on-the-job training under the supervision of a qualified RGD X-ray machine operator:
(a) Identification of radiation hazards associated with the use of the equipment;
(b) Significance of the various radiation warning, safety devices and interlocks incorporated into the equipment, or the reasons they have not been installed on certain pieces of equipment and the extra precautions required in such cases;
(c) Proper operating procedures for the X-ray equipment;
(d) Emergency procedures associated with the X-ray equipment; and
(e) Proper procedures for reporting an actual or suspected exposure.
(2) The training required in section (1) of this rule must include the following subjects:
(a) Fundamentals of radiation safety including:
(A) Characteristics of x-radiation;
(B) Units of radiation dose;
(C) Hazards of exposure to radiation; and
(D) Methods of controlling radiation dose (time, distance, and shielding);
(b) Radiation detection instruments including:
(A) Use, operation, calibration, and limitations of radiation survey instruments;
(B) Survey techniques; and
(C) Use of individual monitoring equipment.
(c) Equipment to be used including:
(A) Operation and control of radiation machines; and
(B) Inspection and maintenance of equipment.
(d) The requirements of pertinent state and federal rules.
(3) Each licensee or registrant shall maintain, for inspection by the Authority, records of training which demonstrate that the requirements of this rule have been met.
(4) The registrant must provide annual refresher safety training, as defined in OAR 333-122-0005(3), for each radiation machine operator at intervals not to exceed 12 months.
