This policy promotes the public health of the academic community, and provides for medical care of students.
Ohio university requires that all residential students disclose their current meningitis and hepatitis B vaccination status prior to residing on-campus.
Students submit this information through a vaccination information form process administered by the housing and resident life department.
Ohio university will require tuberculosis testing in accordance with the centers for disease control and prevention (CDC) guidelines.
Ohio university requires all students to be covered by a major medical health insurance policy. A student health insurance policy is available for purchase through Ohio university through a major medical health insurance provider. All international students, defined as students in F or J non-immigrant status, enrolled for one or more credit hours on the Athens campus, and all domestic students, including us permanent residents, enrolled for five or more credit hours on the Athens campus must be covered by a health insurance plan. In addition, international students are required to enroll their non-immigrant dependents in the student health insurance plan.
Students on the regional campuses who wish to enroll in the student health insurance plan negotiated by Ohio university must contact the insurance carrier directly. They will not be automatically enrolled.
All international students enrolled on time (by the fifteenth day of the semester) for one or more hours on the Athens campus will be enrolled automatically in a health care insurance program.
All domestic students enrolled on time (by the fifteenth day of the semester) for five or more hours on the Athens campus, who have not waived the student health insurance for a previous semester in the same academic year, will be enrolled automatically in a health care insurance program.
Domestic students may waive the health insurance coverage on-line after registering for classes. Current health insurance coverage information must be submitted in conjunction with the waiver. The online waiver is the only accepted waiver format. Waivers must be submitted prior to the posted deadline. Waivers will not be available after the deadline has passed. Charges for student health insurance will remain on a student's account if a waiver is not processed prior to the posted deadline.
International student and scholar services maintains the list of categories of international student status who are eligible for a waiver. Eligible international students may request a waiver of the health insurance coverage after registering by completing a waiver form and submitting proof of health insurance coverage that meets or exceeds the university's health insurance polity repatriation coverage and meets or exceeds the affordable care act requirements for all other coverage. Waivers must be submitted prior to the posted deadline has passed. Charges for student health insurance will remain on a student's account if a waiver is not approved.
People in the following categories are eligible for the services at the student health center located within Hudson hall:
Any student who is registered for the current academic term; or has preregistered or intends to enroll for the following academic term; or during the summer is beginning or continuing a graduate studies program in the fall academic term, even if as yet unregistered. This includes students enrolled on the Athens campus and on any of the regional campuses.
Anyone on campus attending special Ohio university programs, such as workshops, conferences, etc., for which a health fee has been paid.
Any other eligibility will be determined by the medical director or Ohio university campus care.
Except in case of a medical emergency, a reasonable attempt will be made to confirm membership in one of the categories listed in this policy before services are provided.
