Section 7.20 - Executive Order No. 20: Naming the State Justice Building the Robert Abrams Building for Law and Justice

WHEREAS, the principles of law and justice represent the cornerstone of our society, and are essential to maintaining order, protecting the rights of persons and preserving our way of life; and

WHEREAS, Robert Abrams' illustrious twenty eight year career in public service was dedicated to the rule of law and the pursuit of justice, and was marked by achievement, independence and integrity; and

WHEREAS, Robert Abrams was elected to three terms in the New York State Assembly, three terms as the Bronx Borough President, and four terms as the New York State Attorney General and served with honor and distinction in each of these posts; and

WHEREAS, as New York State Attorney General, Robert Abrams fought fiercely for the people of this State, protecting consumer and civil rights and launching ground-breaking efforts in the areas of environmental protection and criminal prosecution; and

WHEREAS, through his many accomplishments as New York State Attorney General, Robert Abrams serves as a national model for state attorneys general throughout the nation; and

WHEREAS, Robert Abrams' career in public service has left an indelible mark on the history of this State, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to the people and his unflinching dedication to the law and the pursuit of justice;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, David A. Paterson, Governor of the State of New York, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and Laws of the State of New York, do hereby proclaim and direct that the State Justice Building, located in the Empire State Plaza, in the City of Albany, County of Albany, shall hereafter be known as the Robert Abrams Building for Law and Justice.
