Section 8.370.18.70 - ANESTHESIA SERVICES FOR AMBULATORY SURGICAL CENTERSA. A physician must examine the patient immediately before surgery to evaluate the risk of anesthesia and of the procedure to be performed.B. Before discharge from the facility each patient must be evaluated by a physician or a certified registered nurse anesthetist for proper anesthesia recovery.C. All patients will be discharged in the company of a responsible adult, except those exempted by the attending physician.D. Anesthetics must be administered by only:(1) a qualified anesthesiologist;(2) a physician qualified to administer anesthesia, a supervised trainee in an approved educational program or an anesthesia assistant. In those cases where a trainee or an anesthesia assistant administers the anesthesia, the anesthetist must be under the supervision of the operating physician; anesthesia assistants must have successfully completed four year education program for physician assistants that include two years of specialized academic and clinical training in anesthesia;(3) a certified registered nurse anesthetist; certified registered nurse anesthetists shall function in an interdependent role as a member of a health care team in which the medical care of the patient is directed by a licensed physician, osteopathic physician, dentist or podiatrist licensed in New Mexico pursuant to Chapter 61, Article 5A, 6, 8 or 10 NMSA 1978; the certified registered nurse anesthetist shall collaborate with the licensed physician, osteopathic physician, dentist or podiatrist concerning the anesthesia care of the patient; as used in this subsection, "collaboration" means the process in which each health care provider contributes their respective expertise; collaboration includes systematic formal planning and evaluation between the health care professionals involved in the collaborative practice arrangement.N.M.
