Section Env-A 1808.02 - Analytical Proficiency The following criteria shall apply to the analysis of asbestos:
(a) For air sampling proficiency standards, the laboratory analysis of air samples shall be performed by either: (1) A laboratory presently accredited for asbestos analysis by the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA);(2) An analyst presently listed in the AIHA Asbestos Analysis Registry; or(3) A person who has successfully completed the NIOSH Course #582 "Sampling and Evaluating Airborne Asbestos" and whose laboratory presently shows evidence of a proficient rating in the AIHA Proficiency Analytical Testing Program (PAT Program);(b) For bulk sampling proficiency standards, the laboratory shall show evidence of a current proficiency rating in the National Volunteer Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP), such as being listed in the most recent copy of the Federal Register containing the EPA's Accredited Laboratories AHERA list for Accredited Polarized Light Microscopy Laboratories; and(c) The analysis of bulk samples shall be performed by, or under the supervision of, an analyst who has successfully completed an approved course of training in the techniques and procedures for identification of asbestos in bulk samples such as the McCrone Institute Bulk Analysis course.N.H.
