Section 391.Sec. 1.3 - NEW
1. Except as otherwise provided in this subsection, a licensee must submit with his or her first application for renewal of his or her license proof of the completion of a course in parental involvement and family engagement that satisfies the requirements of this section. If the licensee is initially issued a nonrenewable license, he or she must submit such proof with his or her first application for a renewable license. If, before the submission of the first application for renewal of a license or the first application for a renewable license, as applicable, the licensee has submitted proof of his or her completion of a course in parental involvement and family engagement that satisfies the requirements of this section, the licensee is not required to submit such proof with the first application for renewal of his or her license or the first application for a renewable license, as applicable.
2. The course in parental involvement and family engagement required by this section must:
(a) Be completed in a course that is offered by:
(1) An accredited college or university and that consists of at least 3 semester hours of credit; or
(2) A school district in this State, the governing body of a charter school or a regional training program and that consists of at least 45 hours of in-service professional development training;
(b) Be consistent with the elements and goals for effective involvement and engagement set forth in NRS 392.457; and
(c) Include an emphasis on building relationships, outreach to families and developing an appreciation and understanding of families from diverse backgrounds.
3. As used in this section, "regional training program" has the meaning ascribed to it in NRS 391A.105.
