Section 180-5-011 - INSPECTION AND MAINTENANCE
011.01VISUAL AND OPERABILITY CHECKS. The licensee or registrant must perform visual and operability checks on survey meters, radiation machines, radiographic exposure devices, transport and storage containers, associated equipment and source changers before each day's use, or work shift, to ensure that:
(A) The equipment is in good working condition;
(B) The sources are adequately shielded; and
(C) Required labeling is present.
011.02SURVEY INSTRUMENT OPERABILITY. Survey instrument operability must be performed using check sources or other appropriate means.
011.03EQUIPMENT PROBLEMS. If equipment problems are found during visual and operability checks, the equipment must be removed from service until repaired.
011.04INSPECTION AND ROUTINE MAINTENANCE. Each licensee or registrant must have written procedures for and perform inspection and routine maintenance of radiation machines, radiographic exposure devices, source changers, associated equipment, transport and storage containers, and survey instruments at intervals not to exceed three months or before the first use thereafter to ensure the proper functioning of components important to safety. If equipment problems are found, the equipment must be removed from service until repaired.
011.05PACKAGE PROCEDURES. The licensee's inspection and maintenance program must include procedures to assure that Type B packages are shipped and maintained as specified in the certificate of compliance or other approval.
011.06RECORDS. Records of equipment problems and of any maintenance performed under 180 NAC 5-011 must be made as required by 180 NAC 5-029.
011.07TRANSPORT CONTAINER INSPECTION AND MAINTENANCE PROGRAM. A program for transport container inspection and maintenance limited to radiographic exposure devices, source changers, or packages transporting these devices and meeting the requirements of 180 NAC 5-011 or equivalent NRC or Agreement State requirement, is deemed to satisfy the requirements of 180 NAC 13-007 and 180 NAC 13-021.
