(1) The purpose of the department's State Unit on Aging within the Senior and Long Term Care Division is to develop and administer the State Plan on Aging in accordance with the requirements of the Older Americans Act, Pub. L. No. 89-73 (1965), as amended and codified at 42 U.S.C. § 3001 et seq. The State Plan on Aging encompasses a comprehensive and coordinated service delivery system addressing the needs of older adults in the state.(2) The State Unit on Aging performs the following functions:(a) serves as the central authority, coordinating services in the state related to the Older Americans Act, including the coordination and oversight of area agencies and service providers;(b) acts as the primary advocate for older adults in the state, in an effort to ensure their rights, dignity, and quality of life;(c) provides guidance and direction to area agencies and service providers in developing and implementing effective and efficient service delivery systems that meet the diverse needs of older adults throughout the state; and(d) works collaboratively with federal, state, and local partners to ensure the successful implementation and administration of aging services, including the Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition Program and Nutrition Services.Mont.
