Rule 17.24.517 - SLIDES AND OTHER DAMAGE(1) An undisturbed natural barrier, as approved by the department, must be provided beginning at the elevation of the lowest coal seam to be mined and extending from the outslope for such distance as may be determined by the department as is needed to assure stability. The barrier must be retained in place as needed to prevent slides and erosion.(2) Whenever a slide that may have a potential adverse effect on public property, health, safety, or the environment occurs, the person who conducts the strip or underground mining activities shall notify the department by the fastest available means and comply with any remedial measures required by the department.Mont.
