The Mississippi Soil and Water Conservation Committee was established by the Mississippi Legislature in 1938 and later reorganized the agency as the Mississippi Soil and Water Conservation Commission. The primary purpose of the Commission is to assist soil and water conservation districts. Each district is operated by a board of commissioners (three (3) elected and two (2) appointed). The Commission conducts elections in each district, certifies the elected commissioners and makes appointments. Commissioners are elected and appointed for a three (3) year term.
