Section 2-1-2-19-105 - Positive Animals
1. Cows testing positive for Trichomoniasis will result in herd quarantine and testing of all breeding bulls in the herd. Such bulls shall be released from quarantine once they achieve 2 negative official tests not less than 30 days apart.
2. Breeding cows in the herd are under quarantine until all of the bulls in a herd have tested negative 2 years in a row. During that time open cows, and cows under 5 months pregnant must only be sold directly to slaughter and be accompanied by a 1-27 Form.
3. Bulls in Mississippi testing positive for Trichomoniasis shall be subject to the following restrictions.
a. If a confirming PCR test is timely requested then the bull testing positive shall be segregated from all other cattle until the confirming PCR test results are received.
b. A bull that has tested positive for Trichomoniasis for which no confirming PCR test has been timely requested or which is confirmed by a second PCR test to be infected with Trichomoniasis shall be immediately isolated from and kept isolated from all other female cattle, and shall not be moved except as provided in these regulations.
c. An infected bull shall be moved directly to slaughter, or sold directly for slaughter through a livestock market, within 30 days from receipt of the positive results of the original test or the results of the confirming PCR test, whichever is later.
i. Movement of an infected bull shall be under a VS 1-27 permit issued by the state veterinarian or his representative.
ii. The VS 1-27 permit shall accompany the bull upon movement of the animal.
4. If an infected bull has been in a herd with other breeding bulls, then the other breeding bulls shall automatically be under quarantine and separated from female cattle until they have tested negative for Trichomoniasis on two negative tests at least 30 days apart. Positive bulls shall be subject to the handling of positives bulls as outlined in this regulation.
