Rule 18-14-30.13 - Calculating Net Income and Benefit LevelsA. In determining net income, MDHS will: 1. Add the gross monthly earned and unearned income of all household members minus the income exclusions to determine the household's total gross income.2. Multiply the total gross earned income by 20 percent and subtract that amount to determine the net monthly earned income.3. Add to net monthly earned income the total average monthly unearned income of all household members, minus exclusions.4. Subtract the standard deduction.5. If the household is entitled to a medical deduction, subtract the portion that exceeds $35.6. Subtract allowable monthly dependent care expenses, if any.7. Subtract allowable monthly child support payments.8. Subtract the homeless shelter deduction, if any.9. Total the allowable shelter expenses to determine shelter costs unless a deduction has been subtracted. Subtract from total shelter costs 50 percent of the household's monthly income after all the deductions previously mentioned have been subtracted. The remaining amount, if any, is the excess shelter cost. If there is no excess shelter cost, then the net monthly income has been determined.10. If there is excess shelter cost, subtract the excess shelter deduction.B.
