The discharge of treated wastewater shall be disinfected when the effluent will be disposed of by means of a surface discharge (Overland Discharge or Spray Irrigation). Individual On-site Wastewater Disposal Systems that utilize surface discharge shall have an approved method of effluent disinfection prior to disposal.
The most common disinfect is chlorine. Other methods of wastewater disinfection are ultra-violet and ozone.
