The Level III trauma center will have transfer guidelines in place for Level I and Level II Trauma Centers, as well as for specialty referral centers (such as burn, pediatrics, spinal cord injury and rehabilitation) when these services are not available at the trauma center. Level III Trauma Centers should work in collaboration with the referral trauma facilities in their region and develop interfacility transfer guidelines. These guidelines must address criteria to identify high-risk trauma patients that could benefit from a higher level of trauma care. All designated facilities will agree to provide services to the trauma victim regardless of his/her ability to pay.
