The trauma service shall be established and recognized by the medical staff and be responsible for the overall coordination and management of the system of care rendered to the injured patient. The trauma service will vary in each organization depending on the needs of the patient and the resources available. The trauma service shall come under the organization and direction of a surgeon who is board certified with special interest in trauma care. All patients with multiple system trauma or major injury shall be evaluated by the trauma service. The surgeon responsible for the overall care of the patient must be identified.
