Any Trauma Center that chooses to offer patient care services that are above the level of their Trauma Center designation, must comply with the standards for the higher level of designation, including response times for physician specialties, protocols and procedures, performance improvement processes, and equipment, training, and personnel as listed on the Essentials and Desirables ("E&D") chart of the appropriate Trauma Center level. Additionally, the higher patient care must be reviewed by both the hospital and regional PI process.
