Air Ambulance Service - (service, provider) an entity or a division of an entity (sole proprietorship, partnership, or corporation) that is authorized by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and BEMS to provide patient transport and/or transfer by air ambulance aircraft. The patient(s) may be ambulatory or non-ambulatory and may or may not require medical intervention of basic or advanced nature. It uses aircraft, equipped, and staffed to provide a medical care environment on board appropriate to patient's needs. The term air ambulance service is not synonymous with and does not refer to the FAA air carrier certificate holder unless they also maintain and control the medical aspects that make up a complete service.
