Medical direction of the transferred patient is a shared responsibility. The transferring physician is responsible under Federal laws for assuring that the patient is transferred by qualified personnel and appropriate equipment. The designation of on-line medical control for the interfacility transfer of patients is the responsibility of the EMS system and its off-line medical director.
