Each educator, upon entering the teaching profession, assumes a number of obligations, one of which is to adhere to a set of principles which defines professional conduct. These principles are reflected in the following code of ethics which sets forth to the education profession and the public it serves standards of professional conduct and procedures for implementation.
A. This code shall apply to all persons licensed according to the rules established by the Mississippi State Board of Education and employed as an educator or administrator by a charter school and protects the health, safety and general welfare of students and educators. B. Ethical conduct is any conduct which promotes the health, safety, welfare, discipline and morals of students and colleagues. C. Unethical conduct is any conduct that impairs the license holder's ability to function in his/her employment position or a pattern of behavior that is detrimental to the health, safety, welfare, discipline, or morals of students and colleagues. D. Any educator or administrator license may be revoked or suspended for engaging in unethical conduct relating to an educator/student relationship (Rule 6.5). Charter schools shall report to the Office of Educator Misconduct, within the Office of Educator Licensure of the Mississippi Department of Education, license holders who engage in unethical conduct relating to an educator/student relationship (Rule 6.5). E. Charter schools shall report infractions according to the guidance outlined under Rule 14.10 under Miss. Code Ann. § 37-3-2 to the Office of Educator Misconduct, within the Office of Educator Licensure of the Mississippi Department of Education. Mississippi Code Annotated, § 37-3-2(15) authorizes the Commission on Teacher and Administrator Education, Licensure and Development, to promulgate procedures for reporting infractions delineated under § 37-3-2. The Commission has provided the procedures to be followed by all educators required to hold a certificate/license. These procedures will ensure compliance with Mississippi law. Charter school leaders should adhere to the guidance and procedures for reporting provided by the Mississippi Department of Education and available through Office of Educator Misconduct. 10 Miss.
