An appointing authority may reimburse a person for relocation expenses associated with an initial appointment in the civil service. Authorization for relocation expenses must be made on or before the date of hire. The relocation must be completed within six calendar months unless the time period is extended, in writing, to a maximum of one year by the appointing authority.
The reimbursement limit is that prescribed in the collective bargaining agreement or the compensation plan which applies to the position being filled. The appointing authority may establish lower limits for both the type and amount of reimbursement. Payment for relocation expenses may be made after the person has become an employee.
The state of Minnesota is not responsible for loss or damage to household goods or personal effects as a result of a relocation covered by this part.
