Section R. 338.619 - Educational standards; adoption by referenceRule 19.
(1) The board approves and adopts by reference in these rules the standards of the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) for the accreditation of speech-language pathology education programs in the publication entitled "Standards for Accreditation of Graduate Education Programs in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology," which were effective August 1, 2017. Copies of the standards are available from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, 2200 Research Boulevard, #310, Rockville, Maryland 20850 at no cost from the association's website at https://caa.asha.org/wp-content/uploads/Accreditation-Standards-for-Graduate-Programs.pdf. A copy of the standards also is available for inspection and distribution at a cost of 10 cents per page from the Board of Speech Language Pathology, Bureau of Professional Licensing, Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, 611 West Ottawa, Lansing, Michigan 48909.(2) Any educational program for speech-language pathologists that is accredited by the CAA qualifies as a speech-language pathology educational program approved by the board.(3) A higher education institution is considered approved by the board if it is accredited by the accrediting body of the region in which the institution is located and the accrediting body satisfies either the recognition standards and criteria of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or the recognition procedures and criteria of the United States Department of Education. The board adopts by reference the procedures and criteria for recognizing accrediting agencies of the United States Department of Education, effective July 1, 2010, as contained in 34 CFR part 602, and the policies and procedures for recognition of accrediting organizations of CHEA, effective June 28, 2010.
