(1) A safety bit chuck without projecting set screws shall be used on a boring or mortising machine.(2) Boring bits should have a guard enclosing all portions of the bit and chuck above the material being worked.(3) The top of the cutting chain and driving mechanism on a chain mortiser shall be enclosed.(4) If there is a counterweight, it shall be guarded as prescribed in R 408.12728(2).(5) Universal joints and spindles of boring machines shall be guarded to prevent accidental contact by the operator.Mich.
