Section R. 408.11449 - Reciprocating conveyorsRule 1449.
(1) A reciprocating conveyor shall have inside and outside nip points guarded.(2) If the reciprocating member of a horizontal reciprocating conveyor moves within 18 inches of a wall or other object, a barrier shall be installed at the end to prevent access by an employee.(3) A vertical reciprocating conveyor which is manually loaded or unloaded shall be guarded with an interlock door or gate to prevent an employee being caught within a nip point.(4) The carriage and controls of a vertical reciprocating conveyor shall be designed and installed to prevent use of the conveyor as a man lift.Mich.
